Professor Mohammed Badasso
Academic and Research Vice President

I want this University to serve as a center of excellence nationally. It is a privilege to work in Adama because it’s a newly established University. There are few complications and less former problems. We also have many new staff members, new construction in progress and expansion plans University-wide. It’s a fresh start for all of us and has the potential to be led in a new direction.”
A start in this new direction has already been made in the development of a Human Resource Center and creating autonomous Faculties. In order to bring the focus of the University back into teaching, plans for outsourcing services are underway, as well as granting incentives for teachers, like allowances and development programs for improving the quality of teachers (ELIP, HDP, ADRC). These endeavors will “help the University to stand on its’ feet.”
The Professor’s focus will also turn to developing close working relations with all University stakeholders and the community. “Through the practice of an open administration system, the University can become a part of the community; we should not stand alone. We need to stand with the community, work with the community, and serve the community. We need to seek vibrant relationships with our local private universities, as well, so that we can serve the community together as one.”
Aiming to develop relationships with the local government, there are plans to train local government employees and organize Adama community business groups, hotels, banks, and industries in the near future while maintaining close collaboration with the main stakeholders of this region. One way to start, in terms of assisting the local industry and community sectors, will be to design a results-based, market oriented curriculum, which can better serve the community. “This University belongs to the community and therefore, it has to serve them because it is their taxes supporting us, their future we’re carrying. There is always an open invitation for the community to join us.”
Professor Mohammed believes that “administration isn’t one man’s job, but a job which everyone has to take a part in towards achieving these objectives and the vision. This is just the beginning” as we look forward to an academic year of education, service, and community.
